What to Wear

People ask me a lot of questions about how to pose, how to look, WHERE to look, and how to be the best "them" they can be for their photo-session. The biggest question that I get is "What the heck am I supposed to wear." You know yourself better than I will ever know you.

First off, wear something that you think screams you! Wear an outfit that matches your style, that represents you. I personally think that wearing timeless and classic outfits are some of the best choices. Think further than a year down the road when you are picking your outfit. Will you be able to look back at your pictures without think to yourself "what was I thinking when I decided to wear that??"

For Engagement Shoots, I like to tell my clients to pick two outfits. With both, they should be somewhat coordinated (by their colors) but should be completely opposite as far as patterns go. Pick out one patterned outfit, and one plain (no-pattern) outfit. While you are wearing your patterned outfit, your fiance should be wearing their plain outfit (whilst coordinating colors). When you change, you wear your non-patterned outfit while your fiance wears their patterned outfit. Make sense?

Those two outfits will be seen by a lot of people, and from those photos people will be able to gauge who you are and what you like, so be cautious when choosing outfits! Wear clothes YOU are comfortable in, are flattering to your body type and that you feel amazing in!

Safe suggestions (for women) include: Jeans, a cardigan and a nice shirt underneath the cardigan with a trendy piece of jewelry to accent your outfit. Another safe suggestion would be: A dress or skirt with a nice top and again, jewelry, or some other accessories to accent your outfit.

Safe suggestions (for men) include: Khakis with a button-up, casual brown/black shoes. Other suggestions include: Jeans and a nice button-up shirt.

For Portraits, or larger group photo sessions, I always suggest having a color theme. Any color will do! Even if it's white. I do suggest a brighter color than white, though. The more noticeable the better. (And that doesn't mean that the color you choose has to show up in just your shirts or pants. It can be in your accessories, shoes, jewelry, scarfs, belts, anything small to anything big!

For Senior Portraits, let's get serious... we all like to look our best. So take advantage of this and wear your best, your trendiest, and your favorite clothes! I usually suggest not to wear T-Shirts. You should pick two different outfits as well! One patterned outfit, and one simple outfit. Both of these should flatter your body type and should make you feel like a million dollars!!

There is always a lot of pressure to look your best, but as long as YOU feel good in what you are wearing and are staying away from un-flattering tops/pants/dresses, you should be A-okay.

Emily and John: Annapolis Engagement Photographer

Emily is a dear friend of mine, I've only know her for about two years but she has become somebody I admire and look up to so much. She is wise beyond her years and is graduating from college this December AND getting married all in the same month. I feel blessed to have been a part of this chapter in Emily's life.

Close to two weeks ago now, Emily got engaged to her best friend John. Everyone knows him better as Johnboy. They are as sweet as can be, and are one of those drop dead gorgeous couples. One of those couples you pass while walking down the street and can't help but stop to stare at them. They are beautiful and they dress incredibly, too. Emily is wearing Dogwood Black during this shoot:) Their hearts and their personalities make them so desirable to be around.

This was my very first Engagement Shoot ever, and I am pretty pleased with the way the pictures turned out. I was so nervous the whole time, maybe even more so than Emily and Johnboy. (And it definitely helped that Andrew came alongside of me to help take some portrait shots...and he took some extremely incredible pictures, I'm a very proud girlfriend to say the least). I can't WAIT to show you the final products!!

I'm in love with this shot.

This is a FAVORITE shot. They both look so happy!

Great Annapolis find, this door was one of the best parts of our shoot!

Andrew being a BOSS!
That capital building in the background gets me every time.

Emily has done this before. She must have... (my awesome boyfriend took this, PS)

Emily had a Marilyn moment in her beautiful white dress

Emily. Look at her HAIR in this picture.

If Emily isn't glowing, then the ring does!

WOW - my FAVORITE shot from this shoot!!!

Your EYES!

I hope you enjoy :)
