Meet Kimmie...

Hey ya'll! I'm Kimmie, thanks for stopping by Kimberly Florence Photography... I want to use this space to tell you a little about me before you do anything else. I could tell you all about my obsession with coffee, all about how I plan on finishing school with an Economics degree at a small liberal arts school called Mary Washington or all about my adorable dog, Charlie, who you will grow to love too through photos and stories I share with you. Instead, I want to tell you about ME and how I came to be ME at this point in my life.

My faith is my foundation. My family is my strong support. My friends love me even at my worst. The combination of those three things have brought me to where I am today and have pointed me in the direction of photography, supporting me throughout the entire process. For me, taking pictures is more than a hobby, more than a fun thing to do, and more than just art. It is a gift that I whole-heartedly intend to use as one. I LOVE taking pictures for friends, and most of the time I feel like it is more of a gift to me because I love doing it so much!! I have the ability to share in someone's happiness, I get to be a part of someone's life and get to share their story with the world. There is nothing more exciting to me than finding beauty in every person's story I come across.

Time for a personal story, I think I knew I loved photography when I started using a film camera. My parents had this old Vivitar film camera sitting in their closet, just sitting and collecting dust, they NEVER used it! What a shame. So one day I asked my dad about it and he told me to use it. That summer I took it to New Hampshire with me on a vacation that I went on with four of my closest girl friends.

Lake Winnepesaukee, NH: Summer 2009 -
Such a beautiful, beautiful lake

I took 4 roles of film while we were there - it was hard to put my camera down! When I got home I developed the film right away. The next day I went to pick up my film, (yes I know... I don't have a dark room, I'm not THAT cool) and only two pictures were given back to me. What?? I turned in four roles, there should have been 85 pictures that I walked away with!! The four roles of film ripped. They couldn't even be developed. I was so shocked.... that's when I knew.

SO cheesy, right? In all seriousness though, I valued those pictures so much - I was sad to lose my art, yes, but I was MORE sad that people couldn't see the beautiful lake, the mountains, the laughter, the JOY the five of us got from that trip. They couldn't see what we saw. NOBODY would ever be able to see how amazing the trip was!!

That's when I fell in love with photography, at least that's when I knew that it was all I wanted to do forever. Share my stories and my experiences with other people through pictures. So that they could feel the same way I did when I was actually experiencing those things.

I hope that as you view my pictures you don't just see strangers or landscapes but you see a story worth being told but that cannot be described through words. I hope that as you view my pictures you find joy in them.

Thanks again for dropping by and reading all about my story! Please please enjoy.
